A passerby has been taken to hospital after being hit by debris when a roof collapsed in Shepherd's Bush this Saturday (5 December).

He was walking along the Uxbridge Road during the afternoon when the roof of a shop and flats collapsed.

London Fire Brigade’s urban search and rescue (USAR) crews were called to the scene and the man was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

A 25m cordon was temporarily put in place and adjoining buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

Station Manager Colin Parker, who was at the scene, said: “USAR crews used specialist search cameras and specially trained dogs to complete a systematic search of the building and were able to confirm that fortunately no-one else was injured in the incident.”

Crews made the area safe before handing the scene over to structural engineers from the local authority.

Road closures remain in place between the junctions of Lime Grove and Wood Lane and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Four fire engines and a number of specialist vehicles attended the incident. The Brigade was called at 1521 and the incident was over at 1923.
