It's a Piece of Cake for Dedicated Parkrunners

Sweet treats on Scrubs to celebrate regulars reaching milestones

Parkrun 272 - August 20

There was definitely a hint of autumn in the air today, even though it’s officially still summer. Ominous clouds were gathering as the parkrunners made their way to the startline.
Sure enough, there were some short, sharp showers along the way. Still that didn’t deter anyone, not even those standing by and supporting.

We had a total of 52 parkrunners today, including parkrun tourist Terry Strachan, who had come all the way from Australia. Nice to meet you, Terry!

First over the line today was Gideon Reid, of Serpentine RC, in a new PB of 17:52 and way ahead of anyone else. He was followed by William McAvock, also of Serpentine RC, in 19:59 and Martin Smith in a new PB of 20:04.

First woman over the line was Ellen Lockett, of Serpentine RC, in a new PB of 24:02, followed by Jasmine Sandalli, of Clapham Chasers RC in 24:09 and Rebecca Johnstone of Ravenscourt Park Runners, in 24:38.

In all, in addition to Gideon, Martin and Ellen, we had 9 further PBs today: congratulations to Daragh Brady, Joseph Silex, Graeme Boxall, Craig Gunn, Karan Rana, Michael Cole, Janet Homer, Emma Holmes and Danielle Taylor.

The three fastest runners in terms of age grade were Gideon Reid, 75.28%, William McAvock, 71.48%, and Aidan Ferrand, 67.32%.

Today was a special day in that three of our Scrubs regulars celebrated milestone runs. Scrubs stalwart Nick Michael completed his 200th run (187 at the Scrubs), Charlie Le Rougetel celebrated her 100th run (89 at the Scrubs) and James Doe also completed his 100th run (72 at the Scrubs), coming back to the Scrubs after running at Kingston last weekend.

To celebrate this occasion, Kirstie Tew had made delicious coconut and lime macaroons, Lan-Lan Smith had baked a carrot cake (special request from Nick) and a chocolate and Guinness cake, with appropriate celebratory candles, Nick paid for all the teas and coffees, Marion Brydson brought some bottles of Prosecco (for consumption later!) and Graeme Boxall brought a gold balloon. I am reliably informed that this is the first helium balloon that Charlie has ever received. Photos of the day are now on Facebook.

There’s a long way to go yet, but at the moment, the male points table is as follows:
Nick Michael on 878 points
Peter Jordan on 786 points
Craig Gunn on 767 points

In the female points table, the first three are:
Kirstie Tew on 864 points
Candace Bovill-Taylor on 829 points
Charlie Le Rougetel on 773 points

Thanks to this week’s volunteers:
Graeme BOXALL, Andrea BROUGHTON, Louise BROWNE, Marion BRYDSON, Fraser BRYDSON, Craig GUNN, Stephen HUTCHINSON and Debbie PETERS-MILL

As you know, we rely on volunteers, so if you’d like to get involved in volunteering at the Wormwood Scrubs parkrun, please email wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com. There's plenty of space in the coming weeks.

Don’t forget that you can also donate to the Scrubs parkrun online.

Happy running and see you next week – if you keep coming, you’ll get that bit nearer to celebrating a milestone run, although we can’t promise cake every time.
