Big turnout on Scrubs for 149th Parkrun

Charlotte Le Rougetel reports on this weekend's run

A chilly wind greeted us at Wormwood Scrubs this morning as the runners lined up for our 149th parkrun. Terrain was still largely dry. In fact, ‘too dry’, according to some runners. After months of us grumbling about the icy bogs, it just shows you what short memories we all have!

With 51 runners taking part, this was our best turnout for a long time and we welcomed a number of London marathon contenders getting a last minute easy run in.

Lots of luck to our own regular parkrunner Andrea Broughton who will be tackling the 26.2 miles through the capital tomorrow. And well done to Matthieu who ran the Paris marathon last weekend.

19 first timers joined us this morning, including my little sister Bonnie Mansell, who normally runs at Pennington Flash in the north west of England.

There were four PBs, including Gideon Reid. Today was Gideon’s third PB this year and also ensured he raced home in first place with a time of 18:40. First female home was first timer Caitlin Rice with 19:44.

Huge thanks to today’s volunteers - Andrew, Rob, Fran, Peter and Riz. If you’re around next weekend and not escaping the capital for the Easter break, we’re still looking for volunteers, so please help - you can see the future roster table here.

And finally, huge congratulations to Marion Brydson, who ran her 50th parkrun today and is still sitting pretty at the top of the female points league table.
